Läsning Jes 38:1–6, 21–22, 7–8
Vid denna tid blev Hiskía allvarligt sjuk, och profeten Jesaja, Amos son, kom till honom och sade : ”Så säger Herren : Se om ditt hus. Du ligger för döden, du kommer inte att överleva.” Då vände Hiskía ansiktet mot väggen och bad : ”Herre, tänk på att jag troget och av hela mitt hjärta har hållit mig till dig. Jag har gjort det som är gott i dina ögon.” Och han grät häftigt.
Herrens ord kom till Jesaja : ”Gå och säg till Hiskía : Så säger Herren, din fader Davids Gud : Jag har hört din bön och sett dina tårar. Jag lägger ytterligare femton år till ditt liv, och jag skall rädda dig och denna stad ur den assyriske kungens hand, ja, jag skall värna denna stad.” Sedan lät Jesaja ta fram en kaka fikon att lägga på såret, så att Hiskía skulle bli frisk.
Hiskía frågade : ”Vad är då tecknet på att jag skall få gå upp till Herrens hus ?” Jesaja sade : ”Detta är tecknet Herren ger dig på att han skall göra vad han har lovat : Jag låter skuggan på trappan gå tillbaka de tio steg som solen redan låtit den tillryggalägga på Achas trappor.” Och solen gick tillbaka tio steg som den redan hade tillryggalagt på trappan.

Evangelium Matt 12:1–8
En sabbat tog Jesus vägen genom sädesfälten. Hans lärjungar blev hungriga och började rycka av ax och äta. Fariseerna såg det och sade till honom: »Se, dina lärjungar gör sådant som inte är tillåtet på sabbaten.«
Han svarade: »Har ni inte läst vad David gjorde när han och hans män blev hungriga? Han gick in i Guds hus, och de åt upp skådebröden, som varken han eller hans män hade lov att äta, utan bara prästerna. Eller har ni inte läst i lagen att prästerna i templet på sabbaten bryter mot sabbaten utan att bli skyldiga till något brott? Men jag säger er: här finns det som är större än templet.
Om ni förstod vad som menas med Barmhärtighet vill jag se och inte offer, så skulle ni inte döma oskyldiga. Ty Människosonen är herre över sabbaten.«

When we came into Rome, Paul was allowed to live by himself, with the soldier who was guarding him.
Three days later he called together the local leaders of the Jews. When they had assembled, he said to them, “Brothers, though I had done nothing against our people or the customs of our ancestors, yet I was arrested in Jerusalem and handed over to the Romans. When they had examined me, the Romans wanted to release me because there was no reason for the death penalty in my case. But when the Jews objected, I was compelled to appeal to the emperor—even though I had no charge to bring against my people. For this reason therefore I asked to see you and speak with you, since it is for the sake of the hope of Israel that I am bound with this chain.” They replied, “We have received no letters from Judea about you, and none of the brothers coming here has reported or spoken anything evil about you. But we would like to hear from you what you think, for with regard to this sect we know that everywhere it is spoken against.”
After they had set a day to meet with him, they came to him at his lodgings in great numbers. From morning until evening he explained the matter to them, testifying to the kingdom of God and trying to convince them about Jesus both from the law of Moses and from the prophets. Some were convinced by what he had said, while others refused to believe. So they disagreed with each other, and as they were leaving Paul made one further statement: “The Holy Spirit was right in saying to your ancestors through the prophet Isaiah,
‘Go to this people and say,
You will indeed listen but never understand,
and you will indeed look but never perceive.
For this people’s heart has grown dull,
and their ears are hard of hearing,
and they have shut their eyes;
otherwise they might look with their eyes
and listen with their ears
and understand with their heart and turn—
and I would heal them.’
“Let it be known to you, then, that this salvation of God has been sent to the gentiles; they will listen.”
He lived there two whole years at his own expense and welcomed all who came to him, proclaiming the kingdom of God and teaching about the Lord Jesus Christ with all boldness and without hindrance.

And his disciples approached him, saying, “Explain to us the parable of the weeds of the field.” He answered, “The one who sows the good seed is the Son of Man; the field is the world, and the good seed are the children of the kingdom; the weeds are the children of the evil one, and the enemy who sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are angels. Just as the weeds are collected and burned up with fire, so will it be at the end of the age. The Son of Man will send his angels, and they will collect out of his kingdom all causes of sin and all evildoers, and they will throw them into the furnace of fire, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Let anyone with ears listen!”
