Föreskrevs 1264 av Urban IV som tacksägelse för eukaristins gåva och förlades till torsdagen efter Heliga Trefaldighets dag. (I länder där dagen inte är allmän helgdag förläggs den till följande söndag). Thomas av Aquino författade dess mässa och officium. Först efter 1317 vann högtiden allmän spridning, firad med högtidliga sakramentsprocessioner och inramad av försommarens blomsterprakt.

158. Varför kallas kyrkan Kristi brud?
Kyrkan kallas Kristi brud därför att Herren själv har förklarat sig vara “brudgummen” (Mk 2:19), som har älskat kyrkan och förenat sig med henne i ett evigt förbund. Han har utlämnat sig själv för henne, för att rena henne med sitt blod och “helga henne” (jfr Ef 5:26) och göra henne till fruktsam moder för alla Guds barn. Medan begreppet “kropp” belyser “huvudets” enhet med lemmarna låter begreppet “brud” skillnaden mellan de två i en personlig relation framträda med större skärpa.

Samma dag som Trump gick ut med hot mot Iran kallade han till en presskonferens. Världen höll andan. Hade han en ny plan? Skulle han invadera Kuba?
Så började han prata. Och det handlade varken om Iran, Kuba eller Kina. Det handlade om byggandet av en balsal.
Trump var som besatt. Medan journalistkåren stod som frågetecken vid en byggarbetsplats visade den amerikanska presidenten vad han tänkt åstadkomma.
Det kommer aldrig att byggas något annat så bra som det här, sade han medan han visade journalister sina byggplaner. Det vet väl jag, som har byggt så mycket i mitt liv, sade han till ljudet av motorsågar i bakgrunden.
Balsalen kan kosta skattebetalarna upp till en miljard dollar. Taket ska trots allt vara drönarsäkert.
Det är inte första gången Trump renoverar. Allt ska göras om. Det berömda Ovala rummet i Vita huset har han låtit förgylla, med så mycket guld att det är värre än något man sett i ”Dubai Bling”.
Han menar själv att han inte bara har jobbet som USA:s president. ”Jag har två jobb. Jag har ett byggjobb… som egentligen är som avslappning för mig eftersom jag gjort detta hela mitt liv”, säger Trump.
Vilket hans andra jobb är kan man fråga sig. Iran har precis dragit sig ur fredsförhandlingar med USA som protest mot att Israel fortsätter bomba i Libanon. Trump säger att Israel har gått med på att ”stoppa allt skjutande”, men attacker rapporterades direkt efter presidentens uttalande.
Trump, som skulle bli fredspresidenten, har trasslat in sig själv och amerikanska skattebetalare i så många konflikter och krig att världen är mer instabil nu än i början av hans presidentskap.
En av dem som får betala priset är sexåriga Yasmina. Hon ligger livlös i sin mors famn efter att ha dödats av israeliska bomber i Libanon. Hennes mamma har förlorat tre av sina döttrar, och nästan hela sin familj i anfallet.
Men Trump ska renovera Vita huset, om det så är det sista han gör. Krigen får gå som de går. Nu f-n ska det byggas. Det påminner om Ulf Kristersson, som har slagit på stort med renoveringar, ombyggnation och inredning i statsministerns officiella bostad.
Även Kristerssons renoveringar kostar svenska skattebetalare pengar. Ett gym för 487 000 kronor. Inredning för 290 000 kronor, varav nästan 79 000 kronor bara är inköp av tyger. Hönsgården till Birgitta Ed kostade skattebetalarna 16 000.
Det spelar ingen roll om världen brinner och människor är beroende av att du fattar rätt beslut. Det är lättare att bygga om hemma.

Lars, 80, lurades i månader – bedragerska sov i döda fruns säng

Bedragerskan i Göteborg gav 80-åriga Lars lugnande tabletter. Sen tömde hon hans konto och började sova i hans döda frus säng.
”Hon sa att hon var från Svenska kyrkan och att hon hade en städfirma”, berättar Lars som gick med på att kvinnan skulle börja städa hemma hos honom. Först efter ett år upptäcktes bedragerskan och dömdes till fängelse.
Nu ska fallet tas upp i hovrätten.
Fader Ignatius Maternowski, en konventualfranciskanerpräst och kaplan i USA:s armé, minns som den enda amerikanska militärfältprästen som dödades på D-dagen, den 6 juni 1944, under de allierades invasion av Normandie.
Född den 28 mars 1912 i Holyoke, Massachusetts, av polsk-amerikanska föräldrar, växte Maternowski upp i en from katolsk familj. Efter att ha tagit examen från Mater Dolorosa Parochial School 1927 och St. Francis High School i Athol Springs, New York, 1931, gick han med i Franciscan Friars Conventual och avlade sina löften 1932. Han prästvigdes 1938 av biskop Thomas O'Leary i Granby, Massachusetts, och tjänstgjorde som församlingspräst och predikant innan han tog värvning i USA:s armé 1942, motiverad av en önskan att tjäna soldater under andra världskriget.
Tilldelad 508:e fallskärmsjägarregementet i 82:a luftburna divisionen anmälde sig Maternowski som fallskärmsjägarpräst och uppnådde graden kapten. Känd för sin styrka, tro och intolerans mot respektlöshet mot kyrkan, respekterades han av sina kamrater. På D-dagen firade han mässa och gav allmän absolution till fallskärmsjägarna innan han hoppade fallskärm in i det tyskockuperade Gueutteville, nära Picauville, Normandie, tidigt på morgonen den 6 juni 1944. Mitt i kaoset av ett spridda fall och hårda strider tog Maternowski hand om sårade soldater och offer för glidflygplanskrasch, och organiserade en provisorisk vätskestation i ett lokalt café-mataffär som ägdes av familjen Thouroude.
Med insikten om det akuta behovet av en skyddad medicinsk anläggning tog Maternowski sig an ett modigt och riskabelt uppdrag. Obeväpnad, med sin kaplansignier och ett Röda Korset-armband, korsade han fiendens linjer för att förhandla med en tysk läkare och försökte etablera sjukvårdsstationen som en icke-stridande anläggning enligt Genèvekonventionen från 1929. Han lyckades få officeren att inspektera de sårade, med målet att skydda både soldater och civila. Tragiskt nog, när han återvände till den amerikanska sidan, blev han skjuten i ryggen av en tysk prickskytt och dödad vid 32 års ålder. Hans kropp låg på vägen i tre dagar tills de allierade styrkorna återfann den. Maternowski begravdes först nära Utah Beach, men 1948 återfördes hans kvarlevor till Holyoke och begravdes på Mater Dolorosa Cemetery i South Hadley, Massachusetts, med en gravsten ingraverad "There Is No Greater Love" (John 15:13).
Maternowskis hjältemod hedras genom ett minnesmärke i Gueutteville, ett glasmålat fönster i La Petite Chapelle de Cauquigny, invigt 2021, samt andra hyllningar i Holyoke, Arlington National Cemetery och London. Hans handlingar var ett exempel på självuppoffring, då han försökte skydda de sårade och upprätthålla människovärdigheten i krigets inför kriget. Franciscan Friars Conventual, i samarbete med World War II Chaplains Memorial Foundation, har tagit tidiga steg mot hans kanonisering, med erkännande av hans martyrskap och hängivenhet.

The Crucifixion of Our Blessed Lord - 5th Sorrowful Mystery

John 19:17-30
So they took Jesus, and he went out,
bearing his own cross, to the place called
the place of the skull, which is called in
Hebrew Golgotha. There they crucified him,
and with him two others, one on either side,
and Jesus between them. Pilate also wrote
a title and out it on the cross; it read, “Jesus
of Nazareth, the King of the Jews.” Many of
the Jews read this title, for the place where
Jesus was crucified was near the city; and it
was written in Hebrew, in Latin, and in
Greek. The chief priests of of the Jews then
said to Pilate, “Do not write, ‘The King of
the Jews,' but, ‘This man said, I am King of
the Jews,'” Pilate answered, “What I have
written I have written.”
When the soldiers had crucified Jesus they took his garments and
made four parts, one for each soldier; also his tunic. But the tunic was
without seam, woven from top to bottom; so they said to one another,
“Let us not tear it, but cast lots for it to see whose it shall be.” This was
to fulfil the Scripture, “They parted my garments among them, and for
my clothing they cast lots.”
So the soldiers did this. But standing by the cross of Jesus were his
Mother, and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary
Magdalene. When Jesus saw his Mother and the disciple whom he
loved standing near, he said to his Mother, “Woman behold your son!”
The he said to the disciple, “Behold, your Mother!” And from that hour
the disciple took her to his own home.
After this Jesus, knowing that all was now finished, said (to fulfil the
Scripture), “I thirst.” A bowl fill of vinegar stood there; so they put a
song full of vinegar on hyssop and held it to his mouth. When Jesus
had received the vinegar, he said, “It is finished”; and he bowed his
head and gave up his spirit.
Some thoughts from a spiritual father of the Oratory of St. Philip Neri
The Hail Mary is the heart of the Rosary. And the heart of the Hail Mary is
Jesus Christ, the fruit of Our Lady's womb.
His Sacred Heart, opened on the Cross, is poured out for the salvation of
souls and for the thirsty who do not yet know Him. From that pierced Heart
flow the living waters of grace and the fire of divine love. His Sacred Heart
beats still for each of us, calling us to rest in Him, to be healed, and to love as
He loves.
He is Found at every Altar, Tabernacle and in the soul who has received him in
Holy Communion.
Our Lady's Immaculate Heart is never far from His. She who carried Him in
her womb now holds Him in her heart, and she holds us there too. Her heart
is the gateway through which the fruit of her womb comes to us in every Hail
Mary. Her heart, free from sin, reflects the meekness and purity of His Sacred
Heart. Where His Heart pours out mercy, hers receives it and gives it back to
us, teaching us to say “yes” with her.
Pride can only be taken away by the true love which is displayed in the
compassion and mercy of the heart of Jesus. It is the truth of the love of the
Sacred Heart that can banish pride and help people to grow in virtue.
So when we pray the Hail Mary, we move from her heart to His, and from His
Heart back to hers.
Some reflective questions from a Sister of Mary Morning Star
1. When I pray the Rosary or single Hail Marys, how do I receive this prayer and
ponder on it? Do I say it by heart, automatically, or do I pray it with my whole heart,
being transformed by Her maternal presence, encountering more deeply God the
Father, with the Son and the Spirit overshadowing Her?
2. As we meditate on the Crucifixion, we are given to contemplate Our Lord's
Sacred Heart and Our Lady's Immaculate Heart. After this Easter Season and this
Month of May consecrated to our Lady, I ask myself: Today, where is my heart? Is it
more configured to Christ's Sacred Heart, a Heart meek and humble, accepting any
sufferings for us? Is my heart closer to Mary's Immaculate Heart, a heart filled with
compassion and tenderness? Or is my heart still caught up into worldly interests
and worries? What do I need to adjust?
3. What am I actively doing in my daily life so that Our Lady's Immaculate
Heart can triumph not in the end but today?!!!
I hope that you find this Meditation text helpful and also the Reflective Questions to aid the Meditation. Our Blessed Mother specifically asks us to spend 15 minutes keeping her company whilst meditating on one or more mysteries of the Most Holy Rosary -each First Saturday. We are also invited to go to Confession, Pray the Rosary and make a Communion of Reparation all with the intention of making Reparation for sins committed against the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Act of Consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary
O Mary, Virgin most powerful and Mother of Mercy, Queen of Heaven and Refuge of Sinners,
we consecrate ourselves to thy Immaculate Heart.
We consecrate to thee our very being and our whole life: all that we have, all that we love, all that we are.
To thee we give our bodies, our hearts, and our souls; to thee we give our homes, our families and our country. We desire that all that is in us and around us may belong to thee and may share in the benefits of thy motherly blessing.
And, that this act of consecration may be truly fruitful and lasting, we renew this day at thy feet the promises of our Baptism and Confirmation.
We pledge ourselves to profess courageously and at all times the truths of our holy Faith, and to live as befits Catholics, who are submissive to all directions of the Pope and the bishops in communion with him.
We pledge ourselves to keep the Commandments of God and His Church, in particular to keep holy the Lord's Day.
