Läsning 2 Pet 3:11b–15a, 17–18
Ni måste leva heligt och fromt på alla sätt, medan ni väntar på Guds dag och påskyndar dess ankomst, dagen som får himlarna att upplösas i eld och himlakropparna att smälta i hetta. Men efter hans löfte väntar vi på nya himlar och en ny jord där rättfärdighet bor. Därför skall ni, mina kära, medan ni väntar på detta, göra allt ni kan för att Gud skall finna att ni lever i frid, rena och oförvitliga. Att vår herre dröjer skall ni betrakta som en räddning.
Ni, mina kära, som fått veta detta, skall vara på er vakt, så att ni inte dras med i de ogudaktigas villfarelse och förlorar fotfästet. Väx till i nåd och i kunskap om vår herre och frälsare Jesus Kristus. Hans är härligheten, nu och till evighetens dag, amen.

R. Du har varit vår tillflykt från släkte till släkte.
Förrän bergen blev till
och du födde jorden och världen,
ja, från evighet till evighet är du, o Gud. R.

Evangelium Mark 12:13–17
Vid den tiden skickades några fariseer och herodesanhängare till Jesus, som skulle snärja honom med frågor. De kom och sade till honom: »Mästare, vi vet att du är uppriktig. Du faller inte undan för någon och ser inte till personen, utan lär oss verkligen Guds väg. Är det rätt eller inte att betala skatt till kejsaren? Skall vi eller skall vi inte göra det?« Men han förstod att de hycklade och svarade: »Varför vill ni sätta mig på prov? Ta hit en denar och låt mig se på den.« De räckte fram en, och han frågade: »Vems bild och namn är detta?« — »Kejsarens«, svarade de. Jesus sade: »Ge kejsaren det som tillhör kejsaren och Gud det som tillhör Gud.« Då häpnade de över honom.

2 Peter 3:12-15a, 17-18
Beloved:
Wait for and hasten the coming of the day of God,
because of which the heavens will be dissolved in flames
and the elements melted by fire.
But according to his promise
we await new heavens and a new earth
in which righteousness dwells.
Therefore, beloved, since you await these things,
be eager to be found without spot or blemish before him, at peace.
And consider the patience of our Lord as salvation.
Therefore, beloved, since you are forewarned,
be on your guard not to be led into the error of the unprincipled
and to fall from your own stability.
But grow in grace
and in the knowledge of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ.
To him be glory now and to the day of eternity. Amen.

Mark 12:13-17
Some Pharisees and Herodians were sent
to Jesus to ensnare him in his speech.
They came and said to him,
“Teacher, we know that you are a truthful man
and that you are not concerned with anyone’s opinion.
You do not regard a person’s status
but teach the way of God in accordance with the truth.
Is it lawful to pay the census tax to Caesar or not?
Should we pay or should we not pay?”
Knowing their hypocrisy he said to them,
“Why are you testing me?
Bring me a denarius to look at.”
They brought one to him and he said to them,
“Whose image and inscription is this?”
They replied to him, “Caesar’s.”
So Jesus said to them,
“Repay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar
and to God what belongs to God.”
They were utterly amazed at him.

Brothers and sisters:
In everything we commend ourselves as ministers of God,
through much endurance, in afflictions, hardships,
constraints, beatings, imprisonments, riots,
labors, vigils, fasts;
by purity, knowledge, patience, kindness,
in the Holy Spirit, in unfeigned love, in truthful speech,
in the power of God;
with weapons of righteousness at the right and at the left;
through glory and dishonor, insult and praise.
We are treated as deceivers and yet are truthful;
as unrecognized and yet acknowledged;
as dying and behold we live;
as chastised and yet not put to death;
as sorrowful yet always rejoicing;
as poor yet enriching many;
as having nothing and yet possessing all things.

Jesus raised his eyes to heaven and prayed, saying:
"Holy Father, keep them in your name that you have given me,
so that they may be one just as we are one.
When I was with them I protected them in your name that you gave me,
and I guarded them, and none of them was lost
except the son of destruction,
in order that the Scripture might be fulfilled.
But now I am coming to you.
I speak this in the world
so that they may share my joy completely.
I gave them your word, and the world hated them,
because they do not belong to the world
any more than I belong to the world.
I do not ask that you take them out of the world
but that you keep them from the Evil One.
They do not belong to the world
any more than I belong to the world.
Consecrate them in the truth. Your word is truth.
As you sent me into the world,
so I sent them into the world.
And I consecrate myself for them,
so that they also may be consecrated in truth."
