Healing Prayer from Mount Athos - Byzantine Orthodox Chant for the Sick ...

Novena to Saint Thomas, Apostle.
December 12 - 20
.
O glorious Apostle Thomas! who didst lead to Christ so many unbelieving nations, hear now the prayers of the faithful, who beseech thee to lead them to that same Jesus, Who, in five days, will have shown Himself to His Church. That we may merit to appear in His divine presence, we need, before all other graces, the light which leads to Him. That light is Faith; then, pray that we may have Faith. Heretofore, our Saviour had compassion on thy weakness, and deigned to remove from thee the doubt of His having risen from the grave; pray to Him for us, that He will mercifully come to our assistance, and make Himself felt by our heart. We ask not, O holy Apostle! to see Him with the eyes of our body, but with those of our faith, for He said to thee, when He showed himself to thee: Blessed are they who have not seen, and have believed!
.
Of this happy number, we desire to be. We beseech thee, therefore, pray that we may obtain the Faith of the heart and will, that so, when we behold the divine Infant wrapped in swaddling-clothes and laid in a manger, we may cry out: My Lord! and my God! Pray, O holy Apostle, for the nations thou didst evangelize, but which have fallen back again into the shades of death. May the day soon come, when the Sun of Justice will once more shine upon them. Bless the efforts of those apostolic men, who have devoted their labours and their very lives to the work of the Missions; pray that the days of darkness may be shortened, and that the countries, which were watered by thy blood, may at length see that kingdom of God established amongst them, which thou didst preach to them, and for which we also are in waiting.

Lesson 3 from the Divine Office of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
.
In Mexico, on the hill of Tepeyac, in the year 1531, the God-bearing Virgin Mary, as is piously handed down, appeared to the neophyte Juan Diego, and gave him a command for Bishop Juan de Zumarraga, which she urgently repeated, that a church was to be constructed in her name at that location. The bishop, however, requested a sign. Then, while he was seeking the sacraments for his dying uncle far from the place of the apparition, his loving Mother favored the neophyte with a third vision, assured him of his uncle’s health, and after he had gathered roses into his cloak that had blossomed out of season, she ordered him to take them to the bishop. The roses having spilled out in the sight of the bishop, an image of Mary, impressed upon the cloak itself, according to the tradition, appeared to those present in a wondrous manner. At first kept in the bishop’s chapel, then transferred to a shrine constructed on the hill of Tepeyac, it was finally moved to a magnificent temple, to which Mexicans increasingly began to gather in droves, for reasons of veneration and frequency of miracles. And therefore as an ever-present defense, the Mexican bishops, to the applause of the whole people, chose the blessed Virgin Mary of Guadalupe as the first Patroness of the Mexican people, which was duly confirmed by the apostolic authority of Benedict XIV. Leo XIII adorned the sacred image with a golden crown on Columbus Day, 1895, by the agency of the archbishop of Mexico. And St. Pius X declared the blessed Guadalupan Virgin as the Patroness of all Latin America.

Santa Lucia, il giorno piu’ corto che ci sia, is a saying known to every Italian child. It means “Santa Lucia, the shortest day of the year.” While Saint Lucy’s feast day does not exactly coincide to the winter solstice on December 21, the celebration on December 13 of this beloved saint marks the one of the important days of the early Christmas season in Italy.
Saint Lucy was born during the third century in Sicily to a life of privilege and wealth, but her interests were not in worldly goods. She was a devout Christian at a time when the faithful were heavily persecuted and she vowed to live as a virgin in devotion to Christ. Her mother, however, arranged a marriage for her to a pagan suitor. To dissuade her mother by proof of a miracle, Lucy prayed at the tomb of St. Agatha that her mother would be cured of a long term illness. When the miracle happened, her mother agreed to call off the plans for the marriage.
Lucy’s suitor had other plans and revealed her as a Christian. Authorities went to arrest Lucy and planned to force her into slavery, but were unable to move her, even after tying her to a team of oxen. They planned to torture her by fire, but the fire consistently died out. Instead, the brutal men tore her eyes out and killed the innocent girl. St. Lucy thus became the patron of the blind and is often depicted carrying her eyes. Her name, Lucia means light and light plays a role in the customs of her feast day.
The Feast of Saint Lucy is celebrated differently throughout the regions of Italy. In the northern regions of Lombardy and Veneto, Saint Lucy’s Day is celebrated with outdoor markets, offering candies and handmade products to buy as gifts. Many stands display traditional trays covered with candies, wrapped and ready to be purchased and given to friends and family. While the feast is a day of merriment and exchanging gifts and sweets in northern regions of Italy, in the southern regions of Calabria and Sicily, the day is marked more with veneration and less with celebration.
In southern Italy, the Feast of Santa Lucia is a religious event, without gifts, markets or sweets. The most important celebration takes place in Siracusa, Sicily, where Lucia was born and martyred. The evening of December 12th, during a religious ceremony in the Cathedral, the silver statue of Lucia, patron saint of the city, is moved from its chapel to the high altar. The next day, the statue is carried by a procession of 60 men wearing traditional green hats through the entire city.
The procession goes on for several hours, taking the form of a solemn pilgrimage during which the saint’s devotees shout “Siracusana je!” (She is a Syracusan!). Holding lighted candles in their hands, many people walk barefoot to enhance their thanks and pleas to the Saint. The statue of Santa Lucia, along with twelve cilii, huge wooden candelabra decked with flowers, is followed by the carriage of the officials dressed in traditional costume. As the statue reaches the Piazza Santa Lucia, ringing bells announce its entrance into the church.

The Serene Month of August
During the Feast of Santa Lucia, a traditional food is prepared and eaten, not only in Siracusa, but in all of Sicily called cuccìa. It is a sweet dish made of boiled wheat prepared in different ways in the various parts of the region.
The origin of this dish is the city of Palermo. According to legend, the region was suffering a terrible famine centuries ago and people had nothing to eat. On December 13, a mysterious ship full of wheat, believed to be sent by Santa Lucia, arrived in Palermo’s harbor. People immediately started to boil and eat it, as they were too hungry to wait for it to be milled and made into bread. Today, cuccia is eaten throughout the region to thank and celebrate Santa Lucia.

Sveta Mala Terezija – Molitve
Amen.
Molitva za krepost nade
Terezijo, svetice velikog pouzdanja!
Pogledaj bolesnike, pritisnute teretom i tjeskobom njihovih patnja. Amen.
Molitva za milost duhovnog djetinjstva
Sveta Terezijo, svojim životom učiš nas svoj „mali put“ duhovnog djetinjstva, put savršenog pouzdanja i predanja Bogu.
Neka to bude i naš put. Izmoli našim srcima mirotvorni duh prave sveobuhvatne ljubavi, koja sve podnosi, svima pomaže, sve razumije i sve prašta. Amen.
Amen.
Molitva pape Pia XII. svetoj Maloj Tereziji
Amen.
Dnevna molitva sv. Male Terezije
Milosrdni Oče, molim Te u ime Tvojega ljubljenoga Sina, Blažene Djevice Marije i svih svetaca, užezi moju braću i moje sestre svojim Duhom ljubavi i udijeli im milost da u drugima mogu buditi veliku ljubav prema Tebi. Amen.
Jutarnji prinos
O moj Bože! Prikazujem Ti sva djela ovog dana u slavu Presvetog Srca Isusova.
Snagom pretvorbe nad kruhom i vinom, daj im i snagu pretvorbe nad srcima. Blagoslovi njihov rad bogatim plodovima i podari im krunu vječnoga života.

Amen
I din levande tro såg du Herren själv i varje person.
Amen
Pneumatomachi, Combators against the Spirit, the Macedonian Heresy, Fought by Pope Saint Damasus.
.
A heretical sect which flourished in the countries adjacent to the Hellespont during the latter half of the fourth, and the beginning of the fifth century. They denied the divinity of the Holy Ghost, hence the name Pneumatomachi or Combators against the Spirit.
.
Macedonius, their founder, was intruded into the See of Constantinople by the Arians (342 A.D.), and enthroned by Constantius, who had for the second time expelled Paul, the Catholic bishop. He is known in history for his persecution of Novatians and Catholics; as both maintained the consubstantiality of the Son with the Father. He not only expelled those who refused to hold communion with him, but imprisoned some and brought others before the tribunals. In many cases he used torture to compel the unwilling to communicate, forced baptism on unbaptized women and children and destroyed many churches. At last his cruelty provoked a rebellion of the Novatians at Mantinium, in Paphlagonia, in which four imperial cohorts were defeated and nearly all slain. His disinterment of the body of Constantine was looked upon as an indignity to the Protector of the Council of Nicaea, and led to a conflict between Arians and anti-Arians, which filled the church and neighbourhood with carnage. As the disinterment had taken place without the emperor’s sanction, Macedonius fell into disgrace, and Constantius caused him to be deposed by the Acacian party and succeeded by Eudoxius in 360. This deposition, however, was not for doctrinal reasons, but on the ground that he had caused much bloodshed and had admitted to communion a deacon guilty of fornication. Macedonius continued for some time to live near Constantinople and cause trouble. He died about 364. It is thought that during these last years he formulated his rejection of the Divinity of the Holy Ghost and founded his sect. His intimacy with Eleusius of Cysicus makes this probable. Some scholars, however, reject the identification of Macedonians and Pneumatomachians, apparently on insufficient grounds and against the authority of Socrates, a contemporary historian living at Constantinople. The Council of Nicaea had used all its energies in defending the Homoousion of the Son and with regard to the Spirit had already added the words: “We believe in the Holy Ghost” without any qualification. The Macedonians took advantage of the vagueness and hesitancy of statement in some of the early Fathers to justify and propagate their error. The majority of this sect were clearly orthodox on the Consubstantiality of the Son; they had sent a deputation from the Semi-Arian council of Lampsacus (364 A.D.) to Pope Liberius, who after some hesitation acknowledged the soundness of their faith; but with regard to the Third Person, both pope and bishops were satisfied with the phrase: “We believe in the Holy Ghost.” While hiding in the desert during his third exile, Athanasius learned from his friend Serapion of Thumis of a sect acknowledging Nicaea, and yet declaring the Holy Ghost a mere creature and a ministering angel (on the strength of Hebrews 1:14). Athanasius wrote at once to Serapion in defence of the true Doctrine, and on his return from exile (362 A.D.) held a council at Alexandria which resulted in the first formal condemnation of the Pneumatomachi. A synodal letter was sent to the people of Antioch advising them to require of all converts from Arianism a condemnation against “those who say that the Holy Spirit is a creature and separate from the essence of Christ. For those who while pretending to cite the faith confessed at Nicaea, venture to blaspheme the Holy Spirit, deny Arianism in words only, while in thought they return to it.” Nevertheless, during the following decade the heresy seems to have gone on almost unchecked except in the Patriarchate of Antioch where at a synod held in 363 Meletius had proclaimed the orthodox faith. In the East the moving spirit for the repression of the error was Amphilochius of Iconium, who in 374 besought St. Basil of Caesarea to write a treatise on the true doctrine of the Holy Ghost. This he did, and his treatise is the classical work on the subject (peri tou hagiou II. M. 32). It is possible that he influenced his brother Gregory of Nyssa to write his treatise against the Macedonians, of which only a part has come down to us and which appears to be based on the words: “Lord and life-giver who proceeds from the Father.” These words, apparently taken from the Creed of Jerusalem, had been used by St. Epiphanius of Salamis in his “Ancoratus” when combating this error (374 A. D.). Amphilochius of Iconium, as Metropolitan of Lycaonia, wrote in concurrence with his bishops a synodal letter to the bishops of Lycia, which contains and excellent statement of the true doctrine (377 A. D.). In Constantinople (379) Gregory of Nazianzus pronounced his brilliant theological oration on this subject. The West likewise upheld the truth in a synod held in Illyria and mentioned by Theodoret (Church History IV. viii) and by Pope Damasus in his letter to Paulinus of Antioch. The heresy was condemned in the First Council of Constantinople, and internal divisions soon led to its extinction. Socrates (Church History V.24) states that a certain Macedonian presbyter, Eutropius, held conventicles of his own while others followed Bishop Carterius. Eustathius of Sebaste, Sabinus, and Eleusius of Cyricus seem to have been leaders whom the sect repudiated (for Eustathis, see Basil, Ep., CCLXIII, 3). In June 383 Theodosius tried by means of a conference to bring the Arian factions to submission. Eleusius handed in his symbol of faith as representing the Macedonians, as he had represented them with Marcianus of Lampsacus at the Council of Constantinople. After this fruitless attempt at reconciliation the Macedonians with other heretics incurred all the severities of the Theodosian code and with a generation disappeared from history. Socrates and Sozomus mention a certain Marathonius, made Bishop of Nicomedia by Macedonius, who obtained such a leading position in the sect that they were often styled after him Marathonians. Through St. Jerome, St. Augustine, St. Damasus, and Rufinus, the name Macedonians became the customary designation in the West. No writings of Macedonius are extant, but Pneumatomachian writings are mentioned by Didymus the Blind, who wrote an excellent treatise on the Holy Ghost in thirty-six chapters (translated into Latin by St. Jerome at the command of Pope Damasus), and who refers in his later work (379) on the Trinity (II, 7, 8, 10) to some “Brief Expositions” of Macedonian doctrines which he possessed.

Monthly Renewal of Consecration to Mary to be Said on the 13th of Every Month in Honor of Our Lady of Fatima.
.
I, (name), a faithless sinner,
renew and ratify today in thy hands,
O Immaculate Mother, the vows of my baptism;
I renounce Satan, his pomps and works;
and I give myself entirely to Jesus Christ,
the Incarnate Wisdom,
to carry my cross after Him all the days of my life,
and to be more faithful to Him
than I have ever been before.
In the presence of all the Heavenly court
I choose thee this day for my Mother and Mistress.
I deliver and consecrate to thee, as thy slave,
my body and soul, my goods,
both interior and exterior,
and even the value of all my good actions,
past, present and future;
leaving to thee the entire and
full right of disposing of me,
and all that belongs to me, without exception,
according to thy good pleasure,
for the greater glory of God,
in time and in eternity.
